pointing

on my way home from hanging out with my heather-heather this evening, i happened to pass a church whose silly signboard thing (at least, i think what they have to say is usually sadly cliche) read, "all creation points to the creator." at first, i had my usual rather sarcastic thought of "how profound and original is that?" but then, i actually made myself think about it. and i realized something that actually was quite profound. we point. we don't have to try to point. do you think trees often say to themselves, "oh dear, i've really got to work at keeping up with this pointing toward heaven thing." no. certainly not. they simply have to be. they are trees. they are who they are, and that is what is most important for them to do. and you look at a tree and think how complex and beautiful it is, and that there must be a God to have made that. but we are the same, i think. even in all our black days and quicksand nights, we are us. as long as we don't stop being, we point. trees go through rough times, too. what do you think winter is? it's not the most fun time to be a tree. you stand out there in the cold and wind and sometimes snow or ice. but as long as you keep standing there, existing, you know spring will eventually come. and you're still pointing the whole time. so anyway. there's my major revelation for the day. take it or leave it, children. good night.

I used to point at people when I was little and my parents told me to stop... I still do a lot, though... :)

Yes, a beautifully true revelation dear. We were created to point weren't we? And we forever display God's glory, even when we ourselves may overlook the beauty of God in our lives in different seasons (the not-so-fun ones). Still the beauty is there.
